Pakistan bowler handed reprimand over breach of ICC Code of Conduct

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been given an official reprimand and fined 20 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the one-day international against England in Lahore on Sunday.

Rauf was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to conduct contrary to the spirit of the game. He has also received one demerit point. As this was his third offence within a 24-month period, his total now stands at five demerit points.

What happened in Lahore

The incident occurred at the end of the 46th over of Pakistan’s innings. At the non-striker’s end, Rauf appealed for a wide and then argued with England all-rounder Will Jacks. Rauf raised his bat and continued the exchange despite a warning from umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid. He then brushed past the umpire while walking towards Jacks.

England penalised for slow over-rate

England have also been fined 15 per cent of their match fee after they were found to be three overs short of their target once time allowances were taken into account. Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl within the allotted time.

Sanctions accepted

Rauf and England captain Harry Brook both admitted their respective offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. As a result, no formal hearings were required. The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Rashid Riaz and Sharfuddoula, third umpire Wayne Knights and fourth umpire Nassir Hussain.

Shadab and Rauf guide Pakistan home

The disciplinary action followed a dramatic match in which Pakistan secured a one-wicket victory over England. Shadab Khan struck an unbeaten century and shared an unbroken 89-run partnership with Rauf for the 10th wicket, guiding Pakistan to victory with 17 balls remaining.

The win sealed Pakistan’s place in the ODI tri-series final, where they will face Sri Lanka on 31 October.
